New York City Clinical Nutrition Services

Some use the terms certified nutritionist and nutritionist interchangeably. It’s important to understand that “anybody” can call themselves a nutritionist; whereas, a Clinical Nutritionist, or Certified Clinical Nutritionist (CCN) is a professional who holds a bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition or a master’s degree in human nutrition, have completed at least 15 courses of core nutrition science, complete at least 900 hours of internship, then sit for a national board exam.

To maintain certification, each CCN (Certified Clinical Nutritionist) must complete 40 hours of continued education courses every two years, attend two CCN annual Scientific Symposiums, and recertify every five years.

Our team of Clinical Nutritionists are qualified professionals. We work one-on-one with patients to develop diets based on how food is affecting you — tailoring nutrition interventions for your specific nutrition needs and goals.

We will analyze your lifestyle, eating behaviors, deficiencies, and excesses in your diet, as well as your medical history. Together, we will develop a nutrition plan so that you can be more confident in your food choices, feel healthier, and live a more vital life.

When searching for the right Clinical Nutritionist Coach we recommend you ask these questions to make sure you find someone who will advocate for your health and support your health and nutrition goals.

  • Where did you study nutrition science?
  • Where did you do your internship?
  • What professional organizations do you belong to?
  • Why did you become a Certified Clinical Nutritionist?
  • How will you approach implementing nutrition changes within my current lifestyle?
  • What is your nutrition coaching style?

What to look for when choosing your Clinical Nutritionist Coach.

  • Reputation: look for reviews to see how others’ experience has been.
  • Coaching style: a CCN’s style should fit what you’re needing, as an individual, to be successful. Establish this expectation from the beginning.
  • Nutrition Counseling: changing the relationship with food and eating can be pretty emotional. Your Certified Clinical Nutritionist should be able to help you manage the psychology of these changes.
